Pro Service details and unboxing!

I received a surprise in the mail yesterday.  The Pro Service welcome package has arrived!  I figured I would share some images of what is included.

Basically you get:

• Expedited repair service with 3 day turnaround from the day they receive the items.
• Free shipping to and from the repair facility
• Complementary loaner equipment of the same or upgraded model if your repair will exceed three days.
• Priority phone support (you get a special number to call so you don’t wait on the usual hold que)
• 6 month extension on camera body warranty
• 15% discount on out of warranty repairs
• 2 free Clean & Check coupons per year.

The clean & check is nice to have.  There are some catches to it.  You have to use them in the same calendar year.  So no saving them up for 10 clean and checks at once.  You also can’t sell them or give them to somebody else.  They are tied to your account.

The clean and check consists of:

• Exterior cleaning
• Sensor cleaning
• Firmware upgrade
• Full function check
• Auto focus accuracy check
• Image stabilizer check

They didn’t mention what a lens clean and check consists of.  I might have to call them for the details.

5 cameras and unlimited lenses are eligible for the program under your account.  All future PEN and OM-D cameras released after the Pen-F will be accepted.  Currently its E-M1, both E-M5s, both E-M10s, and the Pen F.  All others or previous cameras are not eligible.  Interesting to see that all future Pen models will count.  Only Pro and Premium lenses current and future will count.

Olympus also included a couple goodies in the box.  Lets take a peek…

A neck strap is included.  It has a built in quick release.  It’s very well padded and actually quite comfortable.  Certainly not a cheap strap.  You could potentially use this as a side or shoulder strap…but not very comfortably unless you like it short.  It’s really more of a neck strap.  I generally don’t like using any kind of strap, but I tried it for fun.  It’s comfortable.

The other item included is a plush padded lens wrap.  Fun item!  You can see it unfolded and folded here with a 40-150 Pro lens.  Lens wraps are great if you need to wrap something up and put it in a non camera bag for instance.  It keeps your item padded and protected will having a minimal footprint.  This is not a replacement for a lens case or proper protection…but they are great when needed.  Another use is when traveling and you are doubling up items in spaces.  They wont rub or bump into each other when using a lens wrap.

Just for curiosity, I tried seeing what other items this lens wrap was large enough for.

The lens wrap was easily able to take my 500CM.  It also was able to take an E-M1 with 12-40 Pro mounted on it.  That’s nice if you want to put your camera and lens ready to shoot in a purse, diaper bag, backpack, grocery bag, or some other bag you need.  Very cool.  Nothing huge, but nice bonuses to include with their service program.
